MAC's Sequim History Walking Tour

Join MAC Executive Director DJ Bassett and longtime locals Judy Reandeau Stipe and Jan Olts on Friday, May 10 for a guided walking tour through downtown Sequim that highlights some of the places, people and events that shaped local history! Approximately 8-10 buildings/locations will be featured.

Tour times are 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m., and each is limited to 20 people.

Tickets are $10 per person and available for purchase on tour day on a first-come, first served basis at the MAC Exhibit Center. No advance registration. Please note the MAC Exhibit Center will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10 (tour day). A brochure is included with each ticket purchased.

Both tours follow the same route, begining and ending at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim, and last approximately 45-60 minutes. The tour terrain is flat (no stairs), and does not include building interiors.

 
Vietnam Veterans Exhibit Opening Reception: Saturday, May 18 @ 10 a.m. (Armed Forces Day) PDF Print

All are encouraged to attend this free opening reception on Armed Forces Day, May 18, to mark the opening of a new Vietnam veterans history exhibit. The exhibit includes military items and photographs loaned by local Vietnam veterans, a Quilt of Valor by the Friendship Quilters, and a new Olympic Peninsula Doll Club display of military dolls.

PLEASE NOTE: The ceremony previously scheduled for 10 a.m. at the MAC's outdoor Veterans Memorial, 544 N. Sequim Ave., has been canceled and the exhibit reception time moved up in its place.

Spring & Summer Art Demos @ MAC PDF Print

The MAC will present several art demos this spring and summer at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim!

All demos are open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided. Admission to the MAC Exhibit Center is a suggested donation of $2 for adults and children free.

  • Sunday, May 5 @ 12-3 p.m.: Weaving with Rebecca Wallace

Rebecca will demonstrate weaving lavender sticks using a loom.

  • Saturday, May 25 @ 1-3 p.m.: Sketching with Iris Edey

Iris will demo botanical sketching and sign copies of her books (available for purchase @ MAC).

  • Sunday, May 26 @ 12-3 p.m.: Bead Stitching with Paulette Hill

Paulette will demo bead stitching and pendant wire-wrapping.

  • Tuesday, June 18 @ 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Friendship Quilters

Members of the Friendship Quilters will demonstrate quilt making.

MAC's Monthly Summer Swap Meets Return in May! PDF Print

There will be four MAC swap meets this summer, held on the fourth Saturday of the month from May-August 2013.

LOCATION: DeWitt Administration Center (field), 544 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim (located directly across from the brick section of Sequim High School)

TIME: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

DATES: Saturdays = May 25, June 22, July 27, August 24

The cost for renting a 10x10-foot selling space is $15 per swap. THERE IS NO ADVANCE SIGNUP = SELLERS PAY ON THE DAY.

Sellers can sell their items on tables, blankets, out of vehicles, or whatever method they choose. Equipment will not be provided by the MAC.

The MAC Exhibit Center is the site of an official Sequim Irrigation Festival event as we host the 37th Annual Sequim Arts Juried Show for the month of May.

Join us for an artist reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 3, as part of the First Friday Art Walk Sequim (color theme: AQUA). An awards ceremony begins at 6 p.m.

The 37th Annual Sequim Arts Juried Show is on display May 1-June 1, 2013, at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim, and all artwork is for sale. For details, visit the Sequim Art website.

The MAC Exhibit Center is now operating on Summer Hours: Tuesday-Saturday @ 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sundays (May only) @ 12-3 p.m.

 
Art Class for Preschoolers Begins April 12 PDF Print

Certificated instructor Frances Rice will lead a multi-session art class for preschoolers this spring at the MAC.

"Art Explorers: Studio Experience for Preschoolers" meets 10:30-11:30 a.m. two Fridays per month starting April 12 at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim. The class is limited to six, and designed for children ages 2-5 to work with a parent or caregiver to explore clay, paint, collage, line, color and shape through collaborative activities.

19th Annual Sequim Arts Student Show: People's Choice Award Winner PDF Print

Sequim Middle School sixth-grader David Buckley won the People's Choice Award for his 19th Annual Sequim Arts Student Show entry, "Rhythm in Still Life." The People's Choice Award is sponsored by longtime show supporter and artist Judy Priest.

This exhibit showcases 2-D and 3-D artwork by public, private and home-schooled Clallam County students in grades 6-12.

The 19th Annual Sequim Arts Student Show, which showcases the artwork of Clallam County student in grades 6-12, was on display at the MAC during the month of March. Visit the Sequim Arts website for more information about this annual show.

Longhouse Exhibit Showcases Children’s Cultural Expressions PDF Print

An exhibit celebrating the Jamestown S'Klallam Children's Program is now on display at the MAC Exhibit Center.

The exhibit, housed within the permanent Jamestown S'Klallam Longhouse Exhibit, features items made by children ages 5-11 and enrolled in the Jamestown S'Klallam Children's Program. Exhibited items include story sticks coupled with self-penned stories, costumes made for plays, beadwork, weaving, and paddle and drum paintings, as well as displays written in the Klallam language. The exhibit opened on Feb. 1, 2013, during the First Friday Art Walk and will remain on display until Summer 2013.

The Jamestown S'Klallam Longhouse Exhibit features rotating collections of artwork and artifacts of cultural significance, and is a cooperative endeavor between the Museum & Arts Center and the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe.

 
MAC "Mystery Items" Revealed! PDF Print
Every few months, a new "Mystery Item" from the MAC Collection goes on display at the MAC Exhibit Center for the public to identify! Correct guesses are entered into a raffle to win a copy of the local history book Sequim Pioneer Family Histories, From: 1850 to 1962. Visit the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim, to view the current Mystery Item and enter your guess! Artifact IDs and raffle winners are announced in the MAC Newsletter and here on the MAC website.
