Local History Classes

The following series of local history classes will be held at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, located at 2781 Towne Rd. in Sequim.

TOPIC: NEW DUNGENESS LIGHT STATION

When: Friday, March 19, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. 
Presenter: Bette Leffle, a New Dungeness Light Station local authority
Details: Explore the history of one of the oldest lighthouses in the Northwest, first lit in 1857.
Cost: $8 MAC-members, $10 non-members

TOPIC: ARCHIBALD MENZIES

When: Friday, April 16, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Presenter: Ross Anderson, 30-year journalist who has written for The Seattle Times, Port Townsend Leader, and other publications.
Details: Learn about the man dubbed the "Monkey Puzzle Man," the official naturalist to the expedition of Capt. George Vancouver and the Northwest's first Master Gardener.
Cost: $8 MAC-members, $10 non-members

TOPIC: RESORTS IN OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK

When: Friday, May 21, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Presenter: Cliff Brehan, avid local history collector
Details: Journey back in time into the era of the numerous popular resorts that were once located in what is now Olympic National Park.
Cost: $8 MAC-members, $10 non-members


Genealogy Classes

The following genealogy classes will be held in the Whatton Resource Room at the DeWitt Building, 544 N. Sequim Ave. (at the flagpole across from Sequim High School) in Sequim.

TOPIC: EXPLORING & USING FAMILYSEARCH.ORG

When: Monday, March 15, 1-3 p.m.
Presenters: Linda & Norman Rees, 13-year Port Angeles Family History Center staff members
Details: Learn how to fully utilize one of the most comprehensive free websites to get started on your genealogical research (again!).
Cost: $17 MAC-members, $20 non-members

TOPIC: RECORDING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY

When: Monday, March 29, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. OR 1-3 p.m.
Presenters: Linda & Norman Rees, 13-year Port Angeles Family History Center staff members
Details: Learn the proper methods of data and source entry for your genealogical records using the FamilySearch.org free software that you download to your home computer. Bring your laptop or learn using the MAC's computers.
Cost: $17 MAC-members, $20 non-members

TOPIC: GENEALOGY 101

When: Friday, May 21, 1-4 p.m. AND Saturday, May 22, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Presenters: Virginia Majewski, professional genealogist; Roberta Griset; Clallam County Genealogy Society President; Katherine Vollenweider, MAC Executive Director
Details: This 2-day in-depth introduction to genealogical research will cover a broad spectrum of methods and resources for discovering and recording your genealogy: where to find it, how to get it, and how to record it. On Saturday, bring your laptops or learn using the MAC's computers.
Cost: $30 MAC-members & CCGS members; $35 non-members
